This is the first book I have read by Delia Owens, but you can bet it won’t be the last. This story was masterfully written in such a way that you feel like you are there with little Kya through the whole story. The book was written in what seems like and effortless manor, giving delicate details to every part of the storyline. The setting is the marshes of North Carolina in 1969, the makeshift home of a little girl whose mother deserted her years before. How this little girl survives in her new surroundings is something you will have to read for yourself… it would be a crime for me to spoil it for you!
This heartbreaking, heartwarming story is wonderfully written, and highly recommended for anyone who loves an adventure. The attention to detail for this story is impressive, as anyone who is familiar with the North Carolina coastline can tell you. I found myself looking at online maps trying to figure out where Kya might have lived.
Bottom line, this story is wonderful, and I found it very hard to put down. It flows nicely, stays interesting and demands that you read the next page! We give this story a huge 10 out of 10 stars.
